Abstract: Two grapevine training systems, vertical shoot positioned (VSP) and sprawl, were compared for their effects on yield, must composition and polyphenolic evolution in Vitis vinifera L. cv Tempranillo grafted onto 140R. The trial was conducted during 2012 and 2013 in Albacete (Spain). Two levels of shoot density, low (LD) and high (HD) were stablished to compare these systems in the production of premium Tempranillo wines. The evolution of phenolic compounds during maturation was different in each treatment, although the fruit had similar characteristics and were suitable for their purpose. In the interaction of these factors no significant differences were observed in the composition of the musts; however, despite the training system, higher yields were obtained in the high density shoot treatment, which translates into an economic advantage.
