Abstract: In this work agro-ecological vineyards are considered to all those who present a production scheme with low use of synthesis inputs and that tend to achieve a natural balance within the crop, regardless of their adherence to a formal certification system. It includes those that are self-declared agro ecological, organic or biodynamic. The objective of this work was to know the structure and operation of these production systems to design assess and propose improvements. For this purpose, a survey was designed where economic, environmental and social technological variables were consulted. The survey was conducted to 95 firms located in Mendoza, Argentina. These results allow knowing the spatial distribution of the farms, the producers´ profile, the motivations of the adoption and the productive tradition, the capital structure and the labor force, besides the configuration of the units - e.g. combination of activities. These data make possible to build representative productive types through multivariate analysis. Each type was later characterized by models that reflected both the economic aspects - the productive factors - and personal environmental and social aspects. With this information it was possible to carry out an economic evaluation of the activity and it is starting point for the development of proposals tending to improve the productive management.
